People in the press often write and talk about African-Americans and their political perspectives through a single, simple frame: Blacks overwhelmingly vote for Democratic candidates. As a result, the only real question about them politically tends to be how enthusiastic they are about whichever Democrat is on the ballot. Exit polls suggest that in the past 12 presidential elections, the Republican candidate won only about 10 percent of the black vote, and the Democrat averaged 87 percent. But there is much more to Black people being just Democratic; this article explains that there are key differences between their Democratic viewpoints. For example, 70% voted for Clinton, while less than 30% voted for Sanders. This brings up the idea that there are divides among black voters and black elites. It is crucial that for the next primaries and the 2020 election, that they work together to combine their viewpoints, and it is most likely that they will again not vote for Trump if he runs.
